Are you or your employees negatively affected by pressure, heavy workloads, conflict, lack of control and not having enough time for relaxation? Have you considered the complementary therapy Reiki? As a simple, inclusive and holistic relaxation method, it is the ideal workplace therapy, requiring no equipment apart from a chair!
Reiki can help busy people to enjoy some quiet time, honour their own needs, relieve tension, encourage relaxation, and improve mood and sense of self. Although there is a spiritual dimension to the practice of Reiki, there is no pre-requisite belief or understanding required from recipients, and I aim to deliver sessions in a down to earth way that emphasises the relaxation benefits that people may experience and that may best facilitate the sharing of Reiki as widely as possible. Indeed, Reiki is becoming more and more popular as people seek out ways to manage their health and wellbeing holistically. It may be of particular appeal to employees who are just starting out in the graduate workforce and looking for natural ways to manage stress; people in mid life who are juggling careers with children and ageing parents; and people approaching retirement who have tried lots of other approaches! It is a gentle and inclusive option for those who are not able to exercise at work or who don't enjoy it, or those who prefer one to one interventions rather than group activities, or those who would simply like to close their eyes and rest for a short while in order to recharge. It can be used alongside all medication and health conditions, and indeed is used in UK hospitals and hospices to help people to relax.
During a workplace Reiki session, I work one to one with clients, ideally in a quiet room. I invite them to take a seat, fully clothed, removing shoes and spectacles if they wish. I then use a series of hand positions either lightly on the body or non-intrusively just above the body, working with their natural energy flow. People may feel a deep sense of relaxation and peace, and enter a meditative or sleepy state, that they can easily wake from, feeling calmer and more rested. Seated Reiki sessions generally take 20-30 minutes and begin with a short health consultation. Confidentiality is absolute except in rare circumstances and as a former HR professional, I am dedicated to working with organisations in the best interest of the individual employee, and will signpost them to other services if appropriate.
I work with employees in a variety of ways. Appointments can be booked by individuals living in West Sussex/Surrey for sessions at my practice in Crawley, West Sussex. Alternatively, HR or Wellbeing specialists from organisations based in the City of London or West Sussex can get in touch to request a Reiki therapy session at the workplace, as part of a regular service or as a one-off wellbeing event. The service can be funded as part of a wellbeing/benefits programme or by employees directly on a pay as you go basis.
